Novasure

If you are experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding, Novasure Endometrial Ablation may be perfect for you.  It is a one-time, in-office procedure that usually takes 5 minutes – resulting in dramatic reduction in blood loss each month.  Over 90% of patients who have had the Novasure ablation performed recommend this procedure to their friends.

There are some important things to note about this procedure:  it is not indicated for patients who desire future fertility nor is it considered a contraceptive.

The Novasure ablation, when done in the office, is often covered under insurance plans for a small co-pay.  It is a quick, safe, inexpensive and effective treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding.

After some minor preparation, the uterus is evaluated with a small fiber-optic scope.  Using a fan like device that is inserted into the uterus, the lining of the womb is gently burned using bioelectrical impedance.  The result is at least 50% reduction in blood loss with menses.

The procedure includes the following steps:

      1. After slightly dilating your cervix and inserting a slender wand, your doctor will extend a triangular mesh device into your uterus.
      2. The mesh device gently expands, conforming to the dimensions of your uterine cavity.
      3. Precisely measured radio frequency energy is delivered through the mesh for approximately 90 seconds.
      4. The mesh device is retracted back into the wand and both are removed from your uterus.
